Weds 7/28 Squeeze at the Gibson Amphitheater -Noho
With a Bada Bing Victory under the belt the show was to be the Icing on the cake. With a bit of construction related traffic on the 405 N - the icing started to melt. Arriving at Universal is kinda like rolling the dice at the craps table - unless you know the full translation of Charactars to geographical locations you really have no idea where you will end up - I put my money on pass and forged on.
As I approached the gate ticketless - I was on the lookout for scalping opportunities or VIP's who might have an extra ticket. None to be found - 2 girls leaving said they had an extra - but it turned out to be there already scanned printout. After speaking with the theater manager and explaining I came up from SM and was told tix weren't available after 9pm (Squeeze didn't take the stage until 9:50pm) I was issued a replacement tix and ushered in. Finding a seat in the 6th row sweetened the aforementioned icing and Squeeze was the cherry on top.
Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford have a long history of making music together, dating back to 1978 or earlier - well some 32 years later they haven't missed a beat. With such a wide variety of hits to cull from, every song was a fav. Highlights would have to be If I didn't love you, Cool for Cats, Up the junction, Another Nail from heart and Pulling Mussels from a Shell, but really every song was well received. Having seen Dave Wakeling and the English Beat numerous times over the past 5 years, arriving late to catch just Squeeze was a wise decision.
